I was musing other day and thought about how everyone tries to reduce the human population to a couple of groups. "There's only two basic groups...." You know what I mean. But in my mind, it seems there may be three basic groups. Now the reason for being in one group or another is personal and may be due to circumstances beyond one's control. But here's my take. There are three basic groups. There's those who live with eyes wide open. These folks do not take social mores as gospel; they are forever accumulating experiential data and make their own decisions accordingly. This group is not for the faint of heart. The second group live with eyes half shut. They have the intellect to see things as they are but actively choose to put on those colored glasses and make believe everything is rosy. I think there's quite a few in this group. Then there is the third and last group. They do not use their eyes much at all; they use their ears. They listen to what is told them and this becomes the basis for their reality. They buy wholeheartedly into the artificial construct that we take for our world and believe it is unchangeable and they, helpless. This is a 16 by 20 inch acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped canvas. It recently became another example of Original Jones Art brushed into life in the increasingly chaotic metropolis called Austin, Texas.
