At the beginning of the Apple Ipod craze, I created 'Eye-Box' which is currently in my 3D Work sub- gallery here on AW. Years have passed and the craze continues, augmented by other dubious additions to a line that takes obsolescence to a new and more expensive level. Having worked for 20 years in the so-called Information Technology field, I found what consumers will consume both comic and disturbing. Oh well. This piece is an update to that first piece and a cautionary tale regarding our increasing dependence upon technology we do not remotely understand simply because 'everyone else is doing it.' It is made up of my constantly evolving compound with the addition of 2 sets of battery-operated LED lights, and a brass peephole commonly used in doors, Halloween plastic eyeballs I split in half and some plastic ants. I usually paint my work but this time I left it 'raw' as I thought the off-white color suggested anemia which seemed apropos. Through the peephole one may view yet another eye, one made of my compound also. I include a shot of the inside of the box. You may imagine what one sees when peeping in. At the back of the box, plastic ants are crawling out. This is both a nod to Salvador Dali and my assumption that technology currently is breaking down and assimilating us far better than we are IT. The box is roughly 10.5 inches tall by 6.25 by 5.5 inches as it is rectangular. Is this Original Jones Art? Well, I'm thinking it's a likely candidate. :) Addendum: This piece was chosen to be in the 2019 Summer Show at ArtSpace Gallery here in Austin.
