In classic military strategy, the rear guard protected the infantry from being flanked by enemy forces. Heavens knows what would serve as a rear guard in today's armed forces. A drone maybe or satellite feed? On an individual note though, it's nice to know someone or something has our backs. In today's world it seems everyone is pretty much on their own. Even within our personal relationships, it's a crap shoot. Maybe it's always been so. This is a 6 by 4 inches gel pen drawing on medium bond paper and another piece of hopeful Original Jones Art as he watches his flanks in the northwest part of Austin, Texas.
