Umbrella

Here's the story behind this first piece. There are two others. Over the course of several months, I've received several packages in the mail. Some contained interestingly shaped pieces of Styrofoam so I put them aside. I recently made up around 30 pounds of my 'new' papier mach'e compound. I thought of those pieces of Styrofoam and covered and sanded them. There were 10 over-all 'elements' that I used. I then started putting them together like puzzles until something clicked. When they did, I assembled each one and using acrylic paint and polymer, I gave each one a finish. This is sort of a light slate grey with just a little yellow ochre. It stands 8 inches at its peak, 6 inches wide and four inches deep. A neighbor walked up while I was drying the disassembled pieces in the front yard and asked if I was making Stonehenge. I guess this is Original Jones Art's return to basics in northwest Austin, Texas.
