I think if a person can write down his actions of one day and have those self-same actions occur many days hence in much the same order, that would be classified as monotony. There is busy monotony which moves along at a pace that doesn't give one much time to contemplate the drudgery and there is non-busy monotony in which a person has too much time to think about things. Unfortunately, most retired folks fall into the second category. Of course, I've noticed, not everyone is contemplative.
