It has been postulated that mankind (or man unkind, as I sometimes like to call him) is the result of the seeding of earth by extraterrestrials. And geneticists say that a good portion of the population carries neanderthal DNA which strongly suggests they didn't die out but actually merged with modern (I use the term loosely) man. Now I find all this study rather academic since I don't think our concept of God stems from a guy who lived/lives in Brooklyn. But if we are the result of some highly developed alien race using its technology to bring life to what would otherwise have been a lifeless planet, then I strongly suggest that we are a failed and forgotten experiment.
